For fall break Kaylan and I decided to go to Taylor. We had fun going and visiting friends and family. The highlight of the trip for Kaylan was visiting the pumpkin patch. She kept putting more and more pumpkins in our wagon. Before I knew it we had five pumpkins to take home. She had them all named and she would talk about them as if they were a family. She has the cutest little imagination.

After much anticipation we found out that we are having another little girl! I told Ethan that he was going to save so much money. We will be able to reuse all of Kaylan's old stuff. But if there is nothing else he has learned from living with Kaylan and I it is that when it comes to girls money and save just don't go in the same sentence.Kaylan was so excited to hear she was getting a little sister. A few months ago I asked her do you want a sister or a brother and she answered "I want a girl one" it was so funny.

I don't have any idea how Kaylan did this but it was a pain to get out. I tried for about an hour to get it out until I gave up and called my mom to see if she had any bright ideas. Ethan wasn't home but luckily Grandpa Sherwood was. So I got her in the car and took her to see Grandpa. (She feel asleep on the way.) He broke the comb into four pieces for me and I was finally able to untangle it. Since then Kaylan has been banned from using any combs.

Kaylan turned 4 on April 25th! I can't believe how fast she has grown up! Here are some things I love about Kaylan Mae!

1. She is the biggest tease and loves to play jokes on everyone around her!

2. My biggest helper! Always helping me no matter what I am doing.

3. She is a lover and a fighter! Sometimes she loves to cuddle and be sweet and other times she loves to rough house!

4. She is the biggest Girly Girl! She loves jewelry, bows, makeup, dancing, clothes anything pretty and frilly. And she always lets her Daddy know when his clothes aren't matching.

5. Always singing a song. She is very smart and can memorize a song in no time at all. Her favorite songs to sing right now are You Are My Sunshine, Grand Ole Flag and Zippity Do Da.

6. Very creative! She is always wanting to make a craft or jewelry pretty much whatever I do she thinks she can do as well and she already has an eye for these kind of things.

7. She has the sweetest spirit. I absolutely love to hear her pray. It is amazing the things she remembers to pray for and the gratitude she shows not only to her parents but also her Heavenly Father.

Kaylan wanted to have Sidney come and spend the night as part of her Birthday Celebration! They had a great time playing together, making crafts and watching movies. The next morning Kaylan had a primary activity day so she took Sidney with her. On the way to the church Sidney says "lets tell everyone that we are sisters since we kinda look alike". So pictured below are sisters Kaylan Mae and Sidney Jo! (I don't know if they actually told anyone that but it wouldn't surprise me since Kaylan is an only child and Sidney is the only girl in her family.)

This past week Kaylan had a family spring picnic and reptile show at preschool. She was lucky enough to have her Mom and Dad both Grandmas, Aunt Becky, Taryn and Brody attended. It was a beautiful day to be outside having a picnic. Later we went inside to enjoy all the neat reptiles Mr. Rich Ihle had brought. Deep Sea Fishing!

Our last day in San Diego Ethan and I got up early to go Deep Sea Fishing. Grandma stayed at the hotel to watch Kaylan. (Thanks Grandma) We got to the boat and decided to put in the Jackpot. When you put in the Jackpot you place a couple dollars in a competition to see who will bring in the biggest fish. Amazing as it sounds I won the Jackpot ($50 dollars). I caught a quite large Salmon Gruper and this is no fish story!

A guy on our boat got quite the surprise when he was reeling in a fish and instead of a fish on the end of his line there was a huge eel!

Sea World!

Our favorite activity was by far Sea World! This is Kaylan posing with Seymour the Sea Lion! Feeding Seymour some really stinky fish!

Ethan won Kaylan a Shamu stuffed animal. As you can tell from the picture she didn't like it at all.

The Shamu Show unfortunately wasn't as good as it used to be. The trainers no longer get in the water with the Killer Whales. Probably because their names have become really quite literal.

This duck was so friendly it ate right out of Kaylan's hand.

We went to San Diego this last week for a family vacation. While we were there we really tried to pack in as many activities as we could. Our first stop was at Legoland's Sea Life Aquarium. It was a fun to see all different kinds of fish and learn about them. Kaylan is at the perfect age to learn about all the animals that live in the ocean. Her favorite fish were the ones that looked like Nemo and Dori. By the way Legoland is opening an aquarium at the Arizona Mills Mall in May so if you would like a fun family activity to go and do I would highly recommend it.

A few weeks ago we went to Knotts Berry Farm with Grandma and Grandpa Young and family. We had a blast playing with Kaylan in Camp Snoopy as well as seeing all of their fun shows. When are trip was all over and we were driving home Kaylan was so sad to be leaving that she said " I want to stay at Knotts Berry Farm forever". I could sympathize with her becaus it is always sad to leave when you are on vacation. Luckily for her we already had a another trip to California planned before we ever went on this one, so she will get to go to San Diego in a few days.

Lately I have really been into making jewelry. Ethan works nights besides doing school full time. So I have some extra time at night when he is at work to work on my favorite hobby. I've started selling some of my jewelry in the last few months and I have been surprised how many people have ordered custom pieces from me. Maybe one of these days I can retire from auto glass and do jewelry full time (yeah right I'm dreaming). Pictured below are just a few of the pieces I have done lately. For family home evening this week we decided to color eggs and have homemade ice cream. Grandma Sherwood dropped by for a few minutes to help Kaylan color some of her eggs. Ethan had this great idea that he would make homemade ice cream. I was a little skeptical since he had never done it before but it turned out awesome (good job honey!) Because Ethan works at night he is not here of an evening to have family prayer with Kaylan and I. So whenever Ethan is getting ready to go to work Kaylan asks him to pray with her before he leaves. It is so precious to see them kneel in prayer while she asks Heavenly Father to help her Daddy help sick people to get well. I am so proud of her for understanding at the young age of 3 that Heavenly Father is the Master of the Universe and will listen and answer her prayers. Whenever I see her do this I think of the statement in Isaiah, "And a little child shall lead them".

Ethan and I usually don't do much for Valentine's Day. This year we said that we weren't going to get gifts for each other at all. Well we both cheated! I got Ethan some frames for his college degrees. I decided I would put them in the frames for him. I got him two frames so that his Bachelors and Masters would match once he got his Masters. Well after I got his degree in the frame the other frame looked so empty. So to be funny I made up a fake degree. In the degree it says that "Ethan Young will in the future graduate with a Masters in Anesthesia". It started off being a joke but since it has been around it has really made me realize how close we are to Ethan becoming a Nurse Anesthetist. Ethan has worked really hard at school for quite a few years now. He always pulls awesome grades and has learned it all in Spanish! I am so thankful to have a husband who has great work ethic and understands the value of an education. Thanks honey I love and appreciate you soooooo much! Besides being good at school Ethan can be really romantic. Valentine's day he gives me a card that reads "Happy Valentine's Day - I hope it really sucks!" It was kind of strange but when I opened the card he had ordered me a brand new Dyson Vacuum! My last vacuum cost me $70.00 from Wal-mart and it is almost 10 years old. It is a piece of junk to say the least (but it still works). Boy does Ethan know how to make a girl go weak in knees!!!!! It was the best Valentine's gift ever!

I really think I'm going to change my blog name to Kaylan Young instead of Ethan and Kelly Young because she is just about the only thing I blog about. Sorry but I guess she is the center of everything at our house. Last week she was so funny! She can take what I say so literal. I told her that she needed to do a make up dance class and after the class she told me "I didn't get to do any make up". Yes she thought she was going to put make up on at dance. Then the next day I lost my temper with her about something and I said "I'm sorry mom shouldn't have lost her temper with you" so she says "are you going to try to find it". Laughing uncontrollably I say "I sure hope so".

I thought it would be fun to see Kaylan's last three years of Valentine's Day since I didn't have my blog going then.

My brother Scott and his wife Trish were able to take their son Jaxon (who they recently adopted) to the temple last Saturday to have him sealed to them for all eternity. We were blessed to be a witness to this beautiful ceremony. We are so happy and excited for them.

This whole week Kaylan was really sick. Thursday Grandma Sherwood came over to visit her and while she was here she said "Kelly you better get some towels Kaylan has that look in her eye". Immediately after she said that she threw up. In the hours and days afterward Kaylan would come up to me and ask "Mom do I have that look in my eye?" It was so funny and cute.

No Fun like Snow Fun!

Last weekend we went and stayed in snowflake and then went and played in the snow up above Vernon on Saturday. On our way up to the mountain Kaylan asks " Mom who picks up all of this snow?" It was cute to see her brain trying to figure it out. One of the times down the run I decided I would jump on the tube with her. (not a good idea) We started heading in the totally wrong direction. We ended up both doing a full flip off the tube. Luckily we were both okay but unfortunately we didn't get it on film. Below is a picture of Grandpa sticking Kaylan's head in the snow. I don't know where Kaylan gets it from but she is the biggest tease. When she wouldn't stop throwing snow balls at everyone Grandpa decided to give her a little of her own medicine.

Kaylan told her Daddy the other day when he woke up from sleeping after a 12 hour shift that "mom didn't play with me today, she didn't do a craft with me and she didn't even cuddle me". It made me feel so guilty that she felt that way. Sometimes it is really hard to balance time working and time playing with my baby. So Kaylan and I went to the back yard to play in the leaves. We had fun covering her up in leaves and throwing them at each other. In the end this is all that really matters, work will always wait but my baby doesn't stay 3 forever!

For Christmas Kaylan received a Live Butterfly Tree House. She had a fun time watching her caterpillars go through the metamorphosis process. For Family Home Evening one week in December we made a gingerbread house. Kaylan had more fun eating the candy rather than decorating with it. It was fun to look at for a few weeks until I found a line of ants eating on it. So I threw it in the garbage. You would have thought I threw away a million dollars. Kaylan was not happy with me at all that entire day.

So I'll be honest I didn't get very many good pictures this year. I just forgot to take regular pictures. I guess I was so preoccupied with playing with my new Christmas present a digital video camera. Oh well at least it is documented in one way or another. Kaylan got a new/refurbished wagon. (Thanks Uncle Derek for doing such a great job!) She also got lots of new books and a Belle dress-up outfit. Kaylan would say the funniest stuff after she got a gift like "how does Santa know this is just what I was wanting". It seems to be more fun every year playing Santa. I hardly got any sleep Christmas eve because I was so excited. Ethan had to work Christmas eve night so it was tough for Kaylan to wait to open her presents until her Daddy came home from work that morning. It was a beautiful Christmas and we have had so much fun as a family these last few days being able to have Ethan home from work and school. It doesn't happen very often around here so we take advantage of it when it does. Our family has had so many wonderful things happen this past year. We are truly blessed and grateful to have the wonderful life that we have. I hope you all had a great Christmas and we wish you much happiness for the New Year to come!

There is no doubt in my mind that when I leave Kaylan with her preschool teacher Mrs.Ranelle I know she will be receiving the same type of care and love she would receive with me. She also does the most amazing field trips and classroom activities. I have never seen someone so dedicated as her. This year Kaylan was very adamant that she wanted to be a "good" witch. So here is our good witch at some of our different Halloween activities this year. We had fun at our traditional family Halloween carnival and Kaylan started preschool a few days before Halloween so we went to her preschool carnival (it was awesome her teacher goes way above and beyond). Then I ended up throwing a Halloween party for my activity girls. So we definitely weren't lacking for Halloween parties this year but we were glad that we were able to go to all of them because they were all so fun.

Carving Pumpkins & Schnepf Farms!

Ethan helped Kaylan carve her pumpkin this year. It was kind of funny because she was really scared of the guts. Later that day we went to Scnephf Farms. Kaylan got her face painted. Then we rode a bunch of fun rides and watched a really cool dog show.

Holding on to my baby!

Recently Kaylan has been trying to stop this habit of sucking on her hand. She started doing this when she was only two months old, one day she just stopped taking a pacifier and started sucking on her fist. Well as she has grown she has continued to do this and it has become kind of a bad habit. She went to the dentist last month and she came home and said "the dentist said I can't suck on my hand anymore" she was so sad. I know she is getting old enough that she probably needs to stop but it is about the only "baby" thing left that she still does. So it makes me a little sad too. Pictured below is her hands when she sucks on them. She loves to have her nails painted but her index and middle finger always lose the paint first because of them being in her mouth. Ever since her talk with the dentist she has done pretty good about not doing it. But ever so often when she is sleepy I see her hand go to her mouth and how terrible is this I don't stop her even though I know I should. I just think that I will have all the time in the world when she is all grown up but only a short time when she is a baby. So I'm hanging on to that one thing that makes her a baby still for as long as I can.

Camping!

This summer we had fun camping up at Greenspeak. One of Kaylan's favorite things to do is to roast marshmallows to make a smore. This year we were able to see a bear. It was pretty awesome but unfortunately I wasn't quick enough to get a picture. We found a tree stump that someone had made into a tree house. Pretty neat tree house for in the middle of the forest.

We love to go to Canyon lake as a family. This year Kaylan was old enough to try wake boarding with her Daddy. She absolutely loved it. However she thinks that wake boarding is "lake boarding", and I've stopped trying to convince her otherwise. So to heck with it we love to Lake Board!

Potty Training for a Kitty!

About the middle of July we were exhausted with trying to get Kaylan potty trained. So we thought we would give her a little incentive. We told her she could get a kitty when she was finally potty trained. It is amazing what bribery will do. Within a few days she had her kitty. And after going through many different names she finally named him Baxter after the Diamondbacks Bobcat. These are the before and after pictures.

Family Reunion!

The Sherwood Reunion was the weekend of the 24th of July. We had all kinds of fun activities to do with our family. Kaylan played games, raced and made crafts. But her favorite thing was the dance. She can dance non-stop for 3 hours and she proved it. She does have pretty good moves for a three-year old.

We spent the 4th of July up in Taylor. Kaylan really got into all the fireworks and sparklers this year. We had a great time going to Heber to watch the fireworks and grill with Ben and Tara. It's starting to become a fun tradition. Thanks you guys for having us each year!

This year Kaylan has really improved with her swimming. She has been working on her racing dive, back stroke and butterfly. Her favorite thing is to get the rings from the bottom of the pool.

Sleepover!

Kaylan has had couple of sleepovers with Grandma Sherwood. She absolutely loves the one on one attention she gets with having her Grandma all to herself. However it is interesting to hear what activities she does with her Grandma. After one trip I was loading laundry in the washer and out of the dryer and Mae asked if she could help me so I said "sure I'll hand you all the clothes to put in the dryer" she said " no I want to help with the washer" I said " I don't know that you are big enough to help with that" so very dramatically she says "well Grandma thinks I am she lets me when I'm at her house". What do you say to that? You can't deny what Grandma says. So I let her help me with the washer. No big deal right. Of course once you do it the first time they expect they can do it every time. So Grandma it's okay to spoil your grandchildren as long as the spoiling stays at your house!

Makeover Party!

Taryn had her 4th birthday party in May. Kaylan had so much fun getting to have her first sleepover. It was a makeover party. They got their hair, makeup and nails done. Then they dressed up in fancy dresses. Kaylan's best friends are definitely her cousins!

Disneyland!

One of the highlights of our year was going on vacation to Disneyland! I will always remember that look on Kaylan's face when we arrived there. It really was "priceless"! It has been almost six months now and she still talks about the things we did in Disneyland on a daily basis. The other day she asked if we could go to Disneyland again and I told her that mommy and daddy didn't have any money so she said "you can have all of my money in my piggy bank to go to Disneyland" it was so innocent and sweet.

Kaylan turned 3 while we were at Disneyland so it was only appropriate to give her a Cinderella cake. Obviously Disneyland was a pretty neat birthday present but some of her other presents were a doll that could swim, a Dora softball set and a Leapster.

Kaylan's favorite horses to ride are Jet (black) and Lucky (paint). Last year we would ride over by Grandpa's house. Nearly everytime we would ride there we would see these tiny owls. They are so small and interesting. They don't live in trees they like to burrow in the ground. (pictured above) They are probably a third of the size of a regular owl and whenever we would get close to them they would make this hissing sound. It is amazing the animals you can see riding a horse even in the middle of the city. Depending on the time of day Kaylan would multi-task and nap while riding. I don't particularly enjoy this because I feel like my arm is going to fall off by the time we are done.

Playhouse Disney!

I got Kaylan and I tickets to go and see Playhouse Disney. It was a blast! We saw everyone from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einsteins, Handy Manny and Tigger and Pooh. This play got Kaylan really excited to go to Disneyland.

Ever so often for family home evening we will go to Peter Piper, it is a nice break from the norm. Kaylan's favorite thing is actually free she likes the indoor playground equipment. She also loves the part when she gets to cash in her tickets for a prize. This is so pathetic but I have actually gotten addicted to the Spongebob Squarepants game there. I almost have it down to a science on how to win. Yes this is how I spend my spare time trying to outsmart a game that was invented for 5 year olds.

Valentine's Day!

We had a pretty low key Valentine's Day! Kaylan got a scooter and some treats which she was thrilled about and later that day we made some heart shaped cakes to take to her cousins. I think Kaylan enjoyed being pushed on her scooter more than she enjoyed riding it herself. Oh well she can grow into it.

Mae and Papa Feeding!

Kaylan loves to visit Papa's house to help him take care of the animals. She likes to help feed hay and grain to the horses but her favorite thing to do is to bottle feed the baby calves. It is really special to have a place where your child can run and play with space to roam and dirt to play in. In the city that is a rarity.

Part of Kaylan's Christmas was a gift card to go to Build a Bear. Well she didn't exactly build a bear she built a Kitty. It was so cute and fun to do. You put a little heart and everything inside it. Afterward you get to give them a birth certificate so Kaylan decided to name her kitty Kassie. So here is Kaylan and Kassie as twins.

Kaylan has always loved to help me around the house but she especially loves to help cook. These pictures are from almost a year ago. Arizona State Fair 2008!

We went to the fair and Kaylan had fun on all of the exciting rides.

I am so glad we brought our stroller because Kaylan wouldn't have last without it. (ha ha)

Of course you have to visit the petting zoo when you go to the fair.

Tuesday Ballerina Day!

Kaylan is just the most adorable ballerina. I am surprised how attentive she is in class each week. She will ask me almost everyday if it is Tuesday because she knows that she gets to go to dance on Tuesdays. However she doesn't know any other names of the days of the week but at least we have Tuesday down.
